Role overview
To drive new business growth and deepen existing relationships within the assigned territory by positioning the organisation’s wealth and investment proposition with financial advisers and key intermediaries.
The Business Development Manager is responsible for consistent pipeline creation, conversion of opportunities into flows, and high-quality after-sales and relationship support in alignment with regulatory and service standards. The role is field-based across the Western Cape, with office attendance and meetings as required. Start date: as soon as possible.
Key responsibilities
- Territory focus: Western Cape (Cape Town and surrounding areas).
- Grow assets under management and flows by executing a structured business development plan for the territory.
- Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with independent financial advisers, practices and key decision-makers.
- Identify, qualify and convert new business opportunities through consistent prospecting, referrals and networking.
- Conduct adviser engagements, presentations and solution discussions, including platform and product positioning and onboarding support.
- Manage the end-to-end sales process: pipeline tracking, forecasts, reporting and accurate CRM updates.
- Work closely with internal service teams to ensure smooth onboarding, documentation quality and timely resolution of adviser and client queries.
- Support retention and growth of existing adviser books through regular reviews, service recovery and value-add interactions.
- Ensure all activity and advice support remain compliant with FAIS and Treating Customers Fairly principles and internal governance.
- Participate in events, adviser training sessions and marketing initiatives to strengthen brand presence in the territory.
Minimum requirements
- Matric (Grade 12) — required.
- Three or more years’ experience in business development or intermediary sales within financial services (investments, wealth management, LISP/platform or related).
- Proven track record of achieving sales targets and managing a territory and pipeline.
- Strong working knowledge of investment products and adviser practice workflows, and comfort engaging with HNW and affluent client propositions via advisers.
- Valid driver’s licence and own reliable vehicle; willing to travel within the territory.
- Computer literacy (MS Office) and competence using CRM and reporting tools.
Preferred qualifications
- Relevant tertiary qualification (BCom, marketing/sales, finance) and/or industry-related certifications.
- Regulatory exams and/or product category knowledge applicable to the role.
- Existing adviser network in the territory and familiarity with LISP/platform and investment provider processes.
