Role overview
An established boutique wealth-management and financial-planning practice operating within the ABSA Wealth environment, based in Bedfordview, is seeking a professional, commercially aware and client-focused Associate Wealth Manager / Financial Planner.
You will help manage and develop long-term client relationships, financial-planning strategies, investment portfolios and practice-growth initiatives, working with affluent clients in a collaborative, relationship-driven environment.
Who this suits
The role is deliberately open to more than one profile:
- An experienced CFP® professional with established holistic financial-planning experience;
- A CFA-qualified or investment-focused professional seeking broader private-client exposure; or
- A high-potential young professional who has recently completed relevant studies and can be developed into a client-facing wealth-management role.
Key responsibilities
- Build and maintain trusted, long-term client relationships, and conduct regular review meetings and portfolio assessments.
- Conduct comprehensive financial-needs analyses and develop holistic plans across investment, retirement, risk, estate planning, tax-efficient structuring and intergenerational wealth transfer.
- Prepare Records of Advice and supporting documentation that are technically sound, clearly motivated and properly documented.
- Assist with asset-allocation recommendations, portfolio monitoring and rebalancing, and conduct product, fund and platform research and due diligence.
- Identify life, disability, severe-illness and income-protection needs, and support estate-planning work involving wills, trusts, beneficiary nominations and estate duty.
- Liaise with attorneys, accountants, fiduciary specialists and tax professionals, and develop strategic referral relationships.
- Ensure all advice complies with FAIS, FICA, POPIA and Treating Customers Fairly principles, and maintain accurate, audit-ready client records.
- Support the accurate and prompt processing of client instructions, provider applications and implementation actions.
Minimum requirements
Candidates should hold, or be progressing meaningfully toward, one or more of:
- CFP® professional designation;
- Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning;
- A relevant BCom degree;
- CFA designation or active progress through the CFA programme; or
- An Investment Management, Economics, Finance or related qualification.
Fluent Afrikaans and English is a requirement of this role.
Regulatory requirements
Depending on seniority, candidates should ideally have RE5, a valid and verifiable DOFA, FAIS fit-and-proper compliance, the required class-of-business and product-specific training, a current CPD record and appropriate representative status.
Candidates who have recently completed their studies may be considered for a structured development appointment where supervision and training are available.
Experience
Experienced candidates will bring roughly three to seven or more years in holistic financial planning, wealth management, investment advice, private-client servicing or portfolio construction, with proven ability to manage or support high-net-worth relationships and sound exposure to tax, estate and risk-planning considerations.
Graduates and young professionals studying toward CFP® or CFA will be considered where they demonstrate strong technical aptitude, professionalism and excellent Afrikaans and English communication. A graduate would be developed through an associate pathway rather than managing complex high-net-worth relationships independently.
Cultural fit
This is a boutique, relationship-driven practice — working within the ABSA Wealth environment — where trust, discretion and consistency matter as much as technical skill. The practice is looking for someone who builds genuine long-term relationships, works collaboratively rather than competitively, takes ownership and values ethical advice and client outcomes.
